New Year’s Resolutions, Intentions or Goals?

Call them anything you want, just make sure you have something in mind for the new year. Not just for the first couple of days or months. I’m talking about getting really clear on what you want to achieve in 2021. 2020 was rough to say the least, but leave 2020 where it belongs, behind you! And focus on what is ahead of you. Remember it’s inwards and upwards from here. Yes, there will be challenges, every year has it’s unique challenges. But don’t let the fear of these challenges stop you from making a resolution, setting an intention or having a goal.

I want to help you get really clear on what your resolution, intention or goal is. Close your eyes and envision your life in let’s say, a year. What does that look like for you? I have found that having a really clear vision helps to actually work towards your goal. Why? Because if you can see an image of what you want your life to look like, not only is it clear, but it’s also more likely you’ll work towards exactly what you see and want. If there is no target, how will you know where to aim? Right?

So for example, if you have a vision of owning your own business:

  1. What will you be selling? Product or service? Be specific.
  2. Where do you see your office? Will you even need one or will you work virtually?
  3. Picture your perfect clients. Who are they? Young, middle-aged or older.
  4. How will you advertise? Word-of-mouth, radio/TV ads, social media?
  5. By when will you achieve this? Make sure it’s a feasible date that gives you enough time considering everything else you may have going on. The last thing you want to do is cause overwhelm and then give up.

It’s like writing a mini business plan. Be as specific as you can. If your goal is to lose weight, get specific with how much weight you want to lose and by when, and the steps needed to achieve the weight loss. Writing all of this down is extremely powerful because once you do, your brain switches from not knowing what the heck to do, to focusing on your now, clear vision.

You will be able to review and revise any part of what you wrote. If something didn’t make sense, change it, until it does. Was it too vague, too big, too small? Also, the fact you are human and tend to lose motivation after a while, means you will need something to pump you back up. Good thing, because you’ll just need to pull out the piece of paper where you wrote your goals down. Whether its in your phone, stuck to your fridge or on your calendar or planner, you will have access to it as a constant reminder of what you want to achieve.

Get clear on your vision, write exactly what you want to achieve and by when, take action and turn your vision into reality. Now, on your mark, get set, go!

If you’re not sure where to start, or if you may be feeling a little stuck, I can help. I’m a firm believer that once you get really clear about what you want, and even don’t want, you are that much closer to achieving the life you dream of.
